Another news post. This will be a bigger one with various news. I thought I would start to include more general updates from the community that may be something other than new levels, as well as including stuff that have been missing from news posts before, for you who may not browse our forum or Discord.

Forum Email Issues Resolved

Ever since a server move back in July 2023, we’ve had email issues due to a new provider. These have finally been resolved and you should now be able to register to our forum without issues, as well as getting emails if you follow a topic or getting a new PM (depending on your email settings on your profile).

New Staff Member

We would like to welcome TrespasserGuy as a new staff member of our forum staff. A very active member of the community, who’s released several levels as well as starting (and finishing) the latest community level.

Anne’s Apartment Found

Our long time community member (and staff), and Jurassic Park researcher hppav has made some amazing discovery of finding where Anne’s apartment is from the intro and outro video in Trespasser.

If you want to read up about it, and how they did it, you can find it all in the forum topic: Locating Anne’s Apartment

Beach Billboard Hotel Found

And that is not all. hppav also manage to find the hotel, and even the image itself used in the construction billboard found in the Beach level, where you first find out that you are at Site B.

Again, you can read it all in the forum topic: The Beach Hotel Billboard Room Image Found

Caldera Level Finished

morningstarring’s Caldera level mentioned in a previous news post has been finished and released. Make sure to check it out: Caldera Download Page

Let them know what you think about it, either on the download page or in the forum topic: New Level Caldera Finished

Trespasser HD Beach Final

Another level that was released in 2023 but was missed in a news post. Jdangerousdinosaur decided to finish TheIdiot’s HD Beach level and shared it with the community.

“It’s the HD version of the beach created by Theidiot a while back, but it was never finished. I always loved how this level looked, so I fixed it up and added some weapons and dinosaurs, and you can now use the monorail at the end of the level. It’s not a direct remake of the original Beach Level there are some differences, but It’s nothing much. I wanted to do quite a lot more with this, but I had so much trouble with the level becoming unstable and buggy, that I had to restart it multiple times. It was a headache, putting it nicely, haha I think it had something to do with how many objects are on this level, but this was my first Trespasser project to get used to the editor and I really want to thank Draconisaur for his help. This would not have been finished if it was not for him. Please let me know if there are any issues.”

Flyable Helicopter Experiment

morningstarring took some inspiration from Rebel’s airboat experiment to make a flyable helicopter in Trespasser. It is some really impressive work and I highly recommend that you check it out. We are just starting to see what scripting can do in this game! You can download it HERE and follow the progress on the forum HERE.

Several New Impressive Additions By Rebel

In a recent news post we talked about Rebel’s new experiment with getting an airboat working in Trespasser. This time they have taken the next step of experimenting with several things.

The AirShip can be found here: AirShip Download Page and you can follow updates in the forum topic: AirShip_1 (Uploaded)

After working on the AirShip, Rebel went ahead and made a working drone GunShip that can fire guns! Download it here: Drone GunShip Download Page and follow the latest updates here: Drone GunShip Forum Post

After the Drone, Rebel went ahead and made a Drone Copter based on the “Capture Copter” toy by Kenner. You can download it HERE.

How about working Gattling Gun? That even spins! You can find that one HERE.

And lastly (at least at this time), what about a Land Crawler? Download it HERE and have fun!

New Fan Fiction

Both community members, and TresCom staff TrespasserGuy and Draconisaurus started writing some new fan fiction on our forum. TrespasserGuy’s one is not related to Trespasser or Jurassic Park, but it does include dinosaurs. Draconisaurus’ fan fiction is related to The Lost World book. You can find TrespasserGuy’s Kojima: A Thriller HERE and Draconisaurus Return To The Lost World HERE.

Severnaya

A level we missed to include in a news post. This was created by community member Nick3069 and released back in June last year.

“Severnaya is the level I’ve been working on for roughly 2 years. It is based on the level Surface from Goldeneye 007 on the Nintendo 64. It is a sequel of sorts to that game where you play as Natalya, who has been recruited by MI6 and has been tasked to return to Severnaya due to unusual activity in the area while agent 007 is off on another mission.

The level is meant to tie the Jurassic Park universe with the James Bond universe, specifically Trespasser and Goldeneye 007, respectively. I won’t spoil the whole story here, but lets just say Natalya ends up fighting some dinosaurs. :P

Check it out and let us know what you think of it, either in the download comments or the forum topic which you can find HERE.

You can download the level HERE.

New Level “Caldera” In The Works

morningstarring has showed a small sneak peak on their latest level in the works – Caldera. One screenshot and it looks really interesting, using existing assets to create new stuff like a building, which is always amazing to us. It is getting close to release and you can keep up with it on our forum: Caldera Level Forum Topic

MinePass Update

Developed for years, community member MinePass is continuing their Minecraft project MinePass, to recreate the game in Minecraft. They have released an update for you to explore.

You can download the latest update HERE and follow the latest updates in the forum topic HERE.

An Airboat

Rebel went ahead and experimented with doing an airboat in Trespasser. Simialr to morningstarring’s experiment to get a working Emily moving. Download it and check it out HERE.

TresCom’s 20th Anniversary Level

TresCom’s 20th (now 21st) anniversary level has finally been released. Originally aimed to have been released last year for the 20th anniversary of TresCom, it was delayed in order to properly be finished and not released to early. It is an impressive work similar to the Trespasser 20th anniversary level, where several community members have been collaborating in this massive project.

Slender Park: The Slender Recreation

Slender Park is an old level by community member awesome24712. It was released back in 2012 but forgotten to be uploaded on TresCom. Due to various reasons, this project was never finished but we thought it was worth mentioning it here in a news post anyway. The level was made for ATX and comes in its own standalone package. It is clearly worth checking out, and is one of these rare horror levels made in Trespasser.

Latest Update On The 25th Anniversary Level

The 20th TresCom anniversary level, delayed a year due to the big interest and passion, turning into the Trespasser 25th anniversary level has been delayed again. The level is close to being done, but due to the big effort by the community members, they rather make sure to finish the level instead of abandoning it and release it in an unfinished state. We here at TresCom think that is a great idea, as we are always sadden when a project has to be abandoned due to a deadline!

s13n1’s VR Demo Progress

Perhaps the biggest news in this news post. s13n1 has released an updated demo of their VR progress. What we’ve seen in videos so far, it looks amazing. Even in 2023, Trespasser’s assets looks great in a modern engine. If you have an Quest 2 VR set, make sure to check it out! You can follow future updates on their X (Twitter) account!

Draco’s Tutorials

Community member Draco has been working on some tutorials, helpful for both new and experienced modders. One thing the community has been lacking is tutorials, so hopefully this will help some of you to take the step into modding! So far, Draco has released three tutorials, so make sure to check them out if you are curious!

October 30th, 2023 – (Late) Trespasser Anniversary

We are two days late with this, but Trespasser turned 25 years old on the 28th of October. Happy birthday Trespasser! It has been another year and we are still here, and we are still active. We have a news post in the work to share some of the latest stuff the community have been up to lately, it will arrive later this week, so say tuned!

New Dinosaur Models

Community member gooplieslime has released their last batch of new converted dinosaurs for you to use in Trespasser mods. The source of these models comes from various places. You can find these HERE.

Wedge_Antilles’ Printable Models

Added on August 14th: You can also follow their itch.io page, which contains a few Trespasser models for 3D printing!

WedgeDAntilles over on Discord has launched their own miniature game called “Clone-a-Saurus: The Miniatures Gamewebsite. To quote the website:

“Clone-a-Saurus: The Miniatures Game is a tabletop skirmish game that seeks to simulate the thrilling clash of Predator vs Prey! Different Human factions are pitted against each other and Dinosaurs in Earth-shattering battles for dominance!”

For the moment, you are able to buy a selection of 3D printed dinosaurs, while the rule book will be released at a later date.

While the play testing is on-going, there are plans to create a few Trespasser locations for the game, which probably will be the first time Trespasser locations will appear physically anywhere. It is worth checking out and keeping track of if you are into tabletop games!

Make sure to check out their project over on their site: Clone-A-Saurus Website

Trespasser VR (Quest 2)

From no other than s13n1, who is known for their previous TrespassingPetrolia project, now turned into Trespasser VR. For the first time ever, here is a first public showcase for you to try out. Here are some words from s13n1 themselves:

“Firstly I want I make it clear this was originally intended to be a simple test just to show how it runs on the Quest 2. It’s not an actual demo. It’s small, only playable up to the second gate after the shooting range. I decided to add a few more things to make it a bit nicer, but please don’t judge it too harshly, there’s a lot of work to be done.

Also keep in mind this is a very simplistic version for the Quest 2 and I’m intentionally sticking as close to the source material as I can, with little improvements and fixes where needed. The detail is low, the textures are low res, it’s basic, it’s supposed to be. A lot of people wanted a more traditional looking version for VR and a lot of people wanted a version they could play on the Quest 2. This is it. I will be building upon this version for the PCVR version, as there are optimisations done for this version that I had planned to do for the PCVR version, but would have been a huge amount of work.

I also want to point out that I’m not a programmer. I can’t write code to save myself. I’m primarily an environment artist / designer / whatever. I think the fact I’ve been able to make this speaks volumes for how accessible Unity is. I’ve relied on a lot of assets purchased from the Unity asset store, and remade or modified assets from Trespasser. I will at some point list the sources for everything used.

Except for the large billboard trees on the distant hills, there’s only three types of trees that have lower LODs, so there’s a lot of performance improvements to come. I plan on making LODs and billboards for every species to try and optimize the vegetation as much as possible. The very large trees or trees that are leaning or have wild shapes will probably have more detailed LODs as they usually look bad drawn as a billboard. There’s also a lot of trees I haven’t made yet. Some are very similar to others, so some of these will be skipped in favor of more unique varieties.

Shadows are.. yeah they’re okay. For a while I had them disabled, but they are enabled for this test. They were a bit buggy and flickering so I’ve tried my best to make them render properly. I messed about with baking shadows but the results weren’t great and making simple projector shadows had some rendering issues with other shaders. With shadows turned off, the game actually doesn’t look too bad. I’ll figure something out.

The Quest 2 seems to have some issues with Zfighting. Objects intersecting the terrain and the road texture are the worst offenders. I’ll do my best to reduce it.

There’s 2x Antialiasing and for now, anisotropic settings are enabled on everything. It helps keep the rendering clean and crisp.

There are no guns sorry. It would have taken far too long to import the guns and have the models looking acceptable and functioning right with proper sounds and physics etc.

There’s just one raptor wandering about on a looped path. I haven’t spent any time tweaking them. They’re a bit unreliable and often get caught up on things. They don’t have proper full body collisions and may not have full sound collisions. I thought about adding some cool scripted events but I might save that for an actual demo.

The dynamic water was a late addition but actually turned out pretty nice. The heightmapped wave generation relies on a subdivided plane, so the larger the plane is, the more subdivisions are needed to create smooth looking water ripples. Obviously the more detailed you go, the bigger the hit on performance. The starting beach is probably the largest body of water in the entire game, almost all others will be a quarter of the size and will therefore be far more detailed.

Swimming is pretty janky. It’s just some buoyancy applied to the player. Swimmings not a big part of the game anyway, so don’t get too hung up on it. I’ll do my best to improve it, but I don’t want to waste too much time on it. You can look underwater, there’s some simple fog and projected caustics.

There are some fish, seagulls and butterflies to liven things up. They don’t land or react to you, they simply move about randomly. I’ll probably add more animal varieties later. There’s also some dust / pollen type particles floating about in the more vegetation dense areas.

If you look down you’ll notice two things. B1 and B2. Yes they made it in. It’s just the original mesh for Anne with the arms and shoulders removed and attached to the player with some “jiggle” physics bolted on. I do plan on having a more detailed IK body, with actual female arms and hands. If the chest gets out of alignment, just recenter your view. I’m not sure about adding legs, I’ll only go there if it doesn’t look too goofy. VR legs can look pretty darn awful. Health will either be a mood stone necklace that changes colour as you receive damage or I might put a tattoo on her arm / wrist. Not sure yet. Whatever looks best.

The backpack is there, it’s over your left shoulder. It’s just the default Hurricane VR backpack for now, but I do plan on customizing its appearance. What you can store in it for this Quest 2 version is yet to be determined. Don’t expect micromanagement of individual bullets and loading mags, this isn’t that kind of game.

There’s no menus, comfort options or control customisation. It will happen one day, it’s not a priority right now.

The file is 182mb, how you sideload it is up to you. Future updates will probably be available on SideQuest

I hope you enjoy it, I’ve had an absolute blast working on this. I’m excited to see some videos of you playing and building crazy physics shit. I wonder how long it will take someone to figure out a way to physics freak themselves out of the playable area. I’m sure someone will figure out a way!”
