Happy New Year

The time square ball drop. It glowingly descents from the sky. But as time is ticking away, we are reminded of all we lost. The countdown is final and its prime is slipping. This year was incredibly difficult - for all of us.

Looking back, we often forget that all that's left makes way for the new. The fireworks, brightly enlightening the sky, reaches the stars only in lieu of preparation. Alot of effort was made to bring joy to the others - and often it isn't appreciated until it begins to shine.

I am personally very grateful for this community, for all that have been and all that will be a part of it.

A whole new world - Trespasser without borders
Back when Trespasser was being announced, the developers went out of their way to promote the idea of a single island you could explore in one piece. The idea was that the player could walk around the island without any boundaries, fixed levels or layed out paths. A limited budget and several constraints later, the idea was put aside in favor of smaller levels that would have a pre-set objective (mainly to reach point B from point A) - a move many critics and gamers alike complained about... and then s13n1 came around and showed us this:

all_levels_merged

Trespasser, merged into a single island - a marvel made out of 300.000 polygons, a keen eye for detail and lots of sweat. As most of us, I was really surprised to see this, so head over to our forum to find out more.

Telltale releases new Jurassic Park game

Image

Most of you are probably already aware of this - but if you aren't, this is a good one: Telltale Games, the hugely succesful maker of the most recent Monkey Island, Sam & Max and Back to the Future games, has released Jurassic Park - The Game today! This is the first major Jurassic Park release in years and quite possibly (hopefully) the first of a new set of games to come. Oh if they only consider a remake of Trespasser now, I'd be in heaven:

ResearchIndicates's fantastic Trespasser let's play
Now here is something everybody should enjoy. A guy by the name of Jeremy Francis published a set of let's play videos (a form of narrated game play-throughs) on his youtube channel. What makes his videos special is that he captures the mood of the game perfectly and adds tiny tid-bits of information to each of the episodes.

Each episode is ~20-30min long and covers one level each - almost perfect for a relaxing dinner in front of your computer screen. I'd say that nobody should miss these, so start with the first of the 8 episodes right here:
